Women’s strawweights light the fuse for UFC Sacramento, as Dyer
(7-1, 1-0 UFC) toes the line against Reed (8-5, 4-5 UFC) at 115
pounds. David Shurley adjudicates matters. They set sail with no
glove touch. Strong leg kick from Reed. Dyer answers with an
overhand right. Leg kick from Dyer, who takes the center and backs
her counterpart to the fence. She lands another hard leg kick. They
trade jabs in the center of the cage. Nice front kick to the body
from Reed. Dyer sneaks in a head kick, then a one-two and a body
kick. Reed not exactly looking comfortable here. Inside leg kick
from Dyer, who holds all the measurable advantages in this matchup.
Dyer presses forward behind a one-two, retreats and scores with an
inside leg kick. Halfway home in this round. Reed scores with a low
kick and follows it with a kick to the body. Dyer follows a right
hand with a slapping head kick. She snatches a brief clinch and
cuts loose with a few close-range elbows. Ninety seconds on the
clock. Powerful volley from Dyer, who highlights it with a clubbing
left hook. Reed lands a body kick. Dyer staggers her opponent with
a vicious right and follows it with another head kick. Reed grabs a
clinch out of desperation and camps out along the fence. Sharp
knees to the body from Dyer, who leans into a spinning elbow at the
bell.

Back at it for the second round. Dyer opens with a one-two and a
stout leg kick. She continues to counter everything Reed throws.
Dyer scores with a jab, resets, paws with her lead hand and gets
off a pair of one-twos. Reed flirts with a takedown, then thinks
better of it. Dyer circles into open space and drives a front kick
into her opponent’s midsection. Chopping overhand left from the
Englishwoman. She knocks Reed off-balance with a right hand, allows
her to stand and flurries along the fence. She follows with a left
hook to the body and another to the head. Another head kick from
Dyer. She clinches and scores with knees to the body, then presses
Reed into the fence. More knees from Dyer. Ninety seconds to go in
the round. Dyer lands a one-two, then follows it with a right hook
to the body and a left to the head. Reed bleeding from a
significant cut near her right eye. Dyer trips the American to the
floor in the waning seconds, then settles in the clinch.

Reed’s corner at least considered the idea of calling it between
rounds. Dyer steps forward behind a one-two and merciless pressure.
They clinch along the fence. Another one-two from Dyer, who backs
it up with a head kick. Reed looks like a beaten fighter. Dyer
moves forward, walks through a few side kicks to the body, resets
and circles into open space. He unloads with a
crushing knee to the solar plexus. Schultz collapses and eats a few
hammerfists before Herzog decides he has seen enough.

Lightweights step into the UFC Sacramento spotlight, as Young
(11-3, 2-1 UFC) puts the unbeaten Dorsainvil (5-0, 0-0 UFC) to the
test at 155 pounds. Mike Beltran serves as the referee. Glove touch
gets them started. Dorsainvil paws with his jab. Young works kicks
to the leg and body. He lures in Dorsainvil and connects with
multiple punches. Young cracks him with an overhand right and
tosses him to the mat. Young ignites his ground-and-pound, settles
in full guard and slices through his opponent’s defenses with a
clean elbow. Dorsainvil escapes and gets to his feet. Young stays
glued to him initially, then breaks free. Young beating him to the
punch repeatedly, all while mixing in kicks to the lead leg and
body. Dorsainvil catches a kick and scores with a takedown. Young
stands, wobbles on the end of the punch and recovers. They trade
jabs. Overhand right into a left hook from Young, who backs it up
with a leg kick. Front kick to the body from Young. Dorsainvil
plods forward, resets and lands with his lead hand. Young
punctuates a wicked combination with a left hook that staggers his
counterpart. Dorsainvil recovers and fires back near the end of the
round.

Beltran beckons them forward for the middle stanza. Dorsainvil
pumps out two jabs and follows with an overhand right. Young
clinches, then separates and lands in combination. Dorsainvil
turning up the heat with pressure and punches. Young sneaks a right
hand over the top. Dorsainvil answers with one of his own. Young
tunes up his jab. Punishing left hook to the body from Dorsainvil.
They trade jabs. One-two from Dorsainvil, who bobs, weaves and
lands in combination, a head kick included. Young clinches and
presses him into the fence. Dorsainvil turns him and breaks free.
Young jabs the body, then follows a right cross with a left hook.
Dorsainvil scores with his jab and a right hook to the body, then
clinches and delivers a few knee strikes and punches. A little more
than a minute left on the clock. Young works for a takedown from
the clinch but goes nowhere. They separate. Young lands an overhand
right and a left hook. Dorsainvil answers with a right over the top
that draws oohs and aahs from the crowd. He lands another right
hook and completes a takedown as the round concludes.

behind his jab and front kicks. Young ducks into a takedown but
fails to bottle up his opponent. Dorsainvil gets to his feet. Young
lands a slapping head kick, then lands three punches on the
counter. Dorsainvil cuts off a takedown and pours on the volume,
setting off a wild exchange. Clinch knees to the body from
Dorsainvil. Young presses him into the fence. Dorsainvil scrambles
out of a takedown and clinches, then unloads with punches. Most of
them miss. Young eats a close-range head kick and an elbow over the
top. Dorsainvil steps into an elbow. They clash heads. Young
staggers him with an overhand right and follows with two left
hooks. Ninety seconds to go. Nice reverse elbow from Dorsainvil.
Young answers with a right hand over the top and sneaks in a left
hook. Another brief clinch allows Dorsainvil to score with elbows.
He steps into two close-range knees and rides them into a trip
takedown. Dorsainvil moves to the back but allows Young to escape.
They clinch and land on the break. A final exchange leads to a
last-second takedown for Young.

Next on the UFC Sacramento docket: a featherweight confrontation
pitting Kuse (10-2, 0-0 UFC) against Barbosa (18-2, 1-0 UFC) at 145
pounds. Herzog steps in as the third man in the cage. No glove
touch. Barbosa immediately takes the center. Kuse greets him with a
front kick to the body. Barbosa works off his jab and stuffs an
attempted takedown. The Brazilian cuts off two more takedowns
without issue. Barbosa stalks from the center and connects with a
left hook. Kuse whiffs on another takedown attempt. Midway through
the round. He crashes into
the clinch and snatches a standing arm-triangle before dragging him
to the canvas with the choke still in place. Haqparast loses
consciousness at the bell. Wow.

Next up at UFC Sacramento: a heavyweight scrap pairing Nzechukwu
(14-6-1, 8-6-1 UFC) with Gaziev (14-3, 3-3 UFC) at 265 ponds.
Beltran and his glorious beard call the figurative balls and
strikes. Nzechukwu circles on the outside. Gaziev breaks the ice
with a right hand, stalks from the center and feints. Nzechukwu
pops him with a jab and a straight left.
