A Georgia man accused of killing his girlfriend reportedly died of a heart attack while attempting to dispose of her body in a wooded area in Alabama, according to investigators.
Authorities said Daniel Robbins, 44, allegedly strangled his girlfriend, Jessica Folds, 47, before transporting her body to a remote wooded area near Lanett, Alabama. Both were found dead on June 10, about 80 miles northeast of Montgomery.
The investigation, led by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, concluded that Folds died from strangulation following an autopsy.
According to Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Mike Segrest, Robbins appeared to have suffered a fatal heart attack while trying to conceal Folds’ body.
“He died of a heart attack while doing it,” Segrest said. “Their bodies were right there together.”
Investigators believe Robbins was dragging or moving Folds’ body into the woods when he suddenly collapsed. His former wife reportedly told investigators that Robbins had a pre-existing heart condition.
Deputies responding to the scene discovered both bodies near an abandoned vehicle in a wooded area. Officials said Folds was found with her hands raised above her head, while Robbins was discovered nearby in a fetal position.
Authorities confirmed that Robbins and Folds had been in a relationship before her death. No motive has been released, and investigators have not disclosed what led to the fatal confrontation.
Folds, a mother of three adult sons, was remembered by family and friends as a compassionate woman whose kindness touched many lives.
“Jessica touched the lives of many with her heart of gold, deep love for everyone, and a smile that brightened the world,” her obituary stated.
The case remains closed following Robbins’ death, though investigators continue to document the circumstances surrounding the homicide.
