The New York Yankees put themselves in a pretty tough position with Jasson Dominguez, and as a result, could find themselves having to trade him at the deadline.
It’s very tough to get a feel for what exactly the Yankees want to do with Dominguez at this stage of his career, but it’s evident that his time in New York this season won’t be as kind to him as some were hoping for.
Dominguez still has all the tools in the world to be a very good player one day, but in New York, there isn’t a lot of time to wait. He either needs to prove it and get called back up or be traded.
Patrick McAvoy of Sports Illustrated proposed a deal that would end his time in New York and instead help the Yankees find a player who can be an instant contributor for them.

“In this scenario, the Yankees would trade away a former top prospect in Domínguez who didn’t make the club out of camp for an outfielder who has had a lot of success in the majors in Lars Nootbaar and a lefty reliever who logged a 2.07 ERA in 65 appearances in 2025. In 2026, he hasn’t allowed an earned run through three appearances. Nootbaar is on the 60-Day Injured List, so this type of deal is contingent on him returning to form once he’s activated. But there will be plenty of time before the August trade deadline for him to show that he can play.”
Lars Nootbaar has sneakily been one of the more underrated players in Major League Baseball over the past few years. Not that he’s a star by any means, but he has a lot of tools, and while Yankees fans might not love the return for Dominguez, this is probably what he goes for right now.
Sadly, this isn’t a few years ago anymore, and the Yankees have to keep that in mind.
