The Pittsburgh Penguins center duo of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin both reached career milestones on the same play. In their 9-4 win against the Panthers, Malkin earned career point no. 1,400, and Crosby got point no. 1756. He surpassed Steve Yzerman at No. 7 for the most points in an NHL career.
With the Penguins up 3-2 on the power-play, Crosby completed a pass to defenseman Erik Karlsson, who slung a shot towards the net. Malkin tipped it in to make it 4-2, giving Malkin the goal and Crosby an assist.

It’s a serendipitous moment for Penguins fans. Crosby and Malkin have made up one of the most legendary center duos in NHL history. Crosby has won the Art Ross Trophy twice, the Hart Trophy twice, and the Richard Trophy twice. Malkin, meanwhile, has also won two Art Ross Trophies (2008-09, 2011-12) and the 2011-12 Hart Trophy.
Thanks to the duo, the Penguins have won the 2008-09, 2015-16, and 2016-17 Stanley Cups. Malkin won the 2008-09 Conn Smythe trophy for the best playoff performance. Crosby won both the 2015-16 and the 2016-17 Conn Smythe.

Malkin became just the 23rd player in NHL history to cross the 1,400 point plateau. He is one of three active players to earn 1,400 points, along with Sidney Crosby and Alex Oveckin.
He is also No. 23 in career points in NHL history, seven behind Dale Hawerchuk (1,407). In the game, he earned point no. 1,400, 1,401, 1,402, and 1,403.
Crosby, meanwhile, reached point no. 1,756, which passed Hall-of-Fame center Steve Yzerman for no. 7 on the NHL career points race. He needs just 15 points to cross Marcel Dionne at no. 6.
Both of them are still quality performers at an old age. Crosby (38 years old) has 67 points in 64 games, while Malkin (39) is at 53 points in 50 games. Both of their contributions, plus a few more, have kept the Pengions in line for a playoff spot. They’re second in the Metropolitan Division with 92 points, so NHL fans might get to see more playoff hockey from the amazing duo before they both retire.
