A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mrs Abimbola Olajumoke Olawuni has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to nullify the primary election of the party in Ekiti State that produced governor Biodun Oyebanji as the candidate of the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

The gubernatorial aspirant informed the court that the procedure adopted for the conduct of the disputed primary election was arbitrary, contrary to fair hearing, inconsistent with the APC Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022.

Her main grouse was that she was excluded from participating at the poll despite being a bonafide member of the party and having purchased both the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the primary election.

In the suit marked FHC/ABM/CS/222/2025 and filed on her behalf by Abayomi Oluwafemi Olawuyi, the plaintiff applied for order of the court to set aside her purported disqualification from the primary election.

She also sought an order of the Federal High Court Prohibiting APC from excluding her in the nomination election.

The aspirant claimed to have been cleared at the initial stage which entitled her to participate in the final stage but, however, got a shocker on September 24 when she was disqualified during the screening exercise.

She maintained that the September 24 screening exercise was a sham, unlawful, having been done without compliance with section 84 of the Electoral Act and guidelines of the party.

The Plaintiff therefore asked the court to issue order of interim injunction restraining APC from conducting, concluding or forwarding the name of governor Oyebanji to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC as candidate of APC for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ekiti state.

Meanwhile, the suit has been assigned to Justice Peter Odo Lifu for adjudication.
