Gallup, New Mexico — Legendary musician Tito Jackson, a founding member of The Jackson 5, passed away on Sunday, September 15, following a suspected heart attack. According to the Gallup Police Department, Jackson experienced a medical emergency near the American Heritage Plaza, just hours before his death.
The 70-year-old icon was reportedly driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma when the incident occurred. At around 6:17 p.m., a Gallup police officer was flagged down near the mall, alerting authorities to an individual in need of urgent medical assistance. The officer promptly called for an ambulance, and Jackson was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
In a press release issued on Monday, September 16, the Gallup Police Department confirmed that detectives and the Office of the Medical Investigator were called in following Jackson’s death, stating that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are continuing to interview witnesses as they gather more details surrounding the event.
Jackson’s passing has left the music world in mourning, with fans and loved ones paying tribute to his legacy. His sons—Taj, Taryll, and TJ Jackson, known collectively as the pop group 3T—shared their sorrow on Instagram, posting a heartfelt message about their father’s impact on their lives.
