In a harrowing incident at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, worshippers faced a terrifying threat when a man brandishing a firearm stormed into the sanctuary during Sunday service. Bernard J. Polite, 26, allegedly attempted to shoot Pastor Glenn Germany, claiming that “God told me to do it.” However, divine providence intervened as the gun malfunctioned, and Polite was subdued by a courageous congregant before he could inflict harm.
Eyewitnesses recounted the chilling moment when Polite, wearing a smile, directed the weapon at Pastor Germany amidst the congregation. Reacting swiftly, Pastor Germany evaded the impending danger, while a quick-thinking worshipper tackled Polite, preventing a potential tragedy. Together, they disarmed Polite and held him until law enforcement arrived.
According to court documents, Polite confessed to his sinister motive, expressing a desire to be arrested to “clear his mind.” He now faces severe charges, including aggravated assault and attempted homicide, and remains in custody without bail.
Meanwhile, authorities discovered the body of Derek Polite, 56, near the church premises, though it remains unclear if he is related to the assailant. Bernard Polite, previously unknown to the church, reportedly stumbled upon the service after hearing music emanating from the building.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Pastor Germany expressed gratitude for divine intervention, acknowledging the potential for a tragic outcome. “God has intervened,” he stated, emphasizing his appreciation for divine protection amidst the chaos.
