A veteran Veterinary Technologist overseeing the Zoological garden at a university was fatally attacked this afternoon by a 9-year-old male lion while carrying out feeding duties.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, 19th February 2024, has sent shockwaves through the university community and beyond, as Mr. Olawuyi, who had cared for the lions since their birth on campus nearly a decade ago, tragically lost his life in the encounter.
In response to the aggressive behavior exhibited by the lion, authorities made the difficult decision to euthanize the animal, mourning the loss of both a dedicated caretaker and a majestic creature.
