Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council, expressed grave concerns over the nation’s current state. Speaking at the 6th Executive Committee Meeting of the council in Kaduna, the Sultan highlighted the pressing issues of unemployment, poverty, and insecurity, emphasizing that Nigeria is on the brink of turmoil.

With millions of Nigerians struggling without jobs and food, Sultan Abubakar warned that the country is sitting on a keg of gunpowder, urging immediate action to address the root causes of discontent. He stressed the responsibility of leaders to engage the youth and alleviate their suffering through gainful employment opportunities.

The Sultan decried the escalating levels of poverty and insecurity, noting that recent protests in Minna, Kano, and Ondo underscore the widespread discontent among citizens. Despite the prevailing challenges, he called for concerted efforts to reassure the populace and restore stability.

While acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Sultan Abubakar emphasized the need for constructive dialogue and collaboration to find lasting solutions.

The closed-door meeting focused on addressing health concerns, insecurity, and poverty in the northern region. It had in attendance the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Iyerste; and other traditional rulers, prominent members of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Coalition of Northern Groups, as well as the representatives of the Inspector-General of Police and the Direcror-General of the Department of State Services, amongst others.
