In a groundbreaking move, Vice President Kahsim Shettima announced President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the “Pulaaku Initiative,” a non-kinetic solution aimed at addressing insurgency and banditry in the North. Allocating a substantial N50bn in its initial phase, the initiative is set to commence in seven states: Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Benue, Zamfara, Niger, and Kaduna.

During the opening address at the “Multi-Dimensional Approach to Tackling Insecurity in Northern Nigeria” roundtable organized by the Coalition of Northern Groups, Shettima highlighted the equal treatment of all regions in addressing critical needs. Emphasizing the transformative journey, he detailed the Pulaaku Initiative’s focus on improving living conditions and livelihoods through the construction of residences, roads, schools, and essential facilities.

Shettima reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity, citing a significant allocation in the 2024 budget. He urged Nigerians to unite in building stronger systems and avoid narratives that divide the nation, emphasizing the collective responsibility in fostering a more secure and prosperous future. The Pulaaku Initiative marks a crucial step toward catalyzing the fortunes of the northern region and addressing the root causes of existing challenges.
