A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Southwest zone, South West APC Support Groups (SASG), has voiced apprehensions regarding what they perceive as a disproportionate sense of entitlement among chieftains of the ruling party from Lagos State.
In a statement issued by the National Coordinator of the SASG, Otunba Tunde Filani, the group expressed concern over the apparent concentration of appointments within the Tinubu administration in the hands of politicians from Lagos, whom they referred to as “Lagos boys.”
Highlighting recent appointments by the president, the SASG Coordinator pointed out that the majority of those selected hail from Lagos, even though other states in the Southwest zone also played pivotal roles in securing victory for President Bola Tinubu during the elections.
“We have observed, with utmost dismay, the ongoing unpleasant development at the presidency whereby most appointments are being filled with ‘Lagos boys’,” the statement read.
The SASG called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address this issue promptly, emphasizing that the trend may lead to simmering discontent within the Southwest and negatively impact the administration’s reputation as a nationalistic and pan-Nigerian government.
The group further emphasized that a more inclusive approach should be adopted, with other states in the Southwest being given their fair share of appointments, reflecting their contributions to the success of the APC during the elections.
“Mr. President should stand his ground and not allow himself to be misled under any unwarranted pressure. He should be a president for all,” the statement stressed.
The SASG Coordinator also raised concerns over the hierarchical arrangement of committees and appointments, urging a more balanced representation to ensure equal participation from all states within the region.
The group’s call for inclusivity and equitable distribution of appointments underscores the importance of fostering unity within the Southwest and promoting the best interests of Nigeria as a whole.
